Presenting Work at NGV Making Good: Redesigning the Everyday (2025)

The NGV’s 2025 exhibition ‘Making Good: Redesigning the Everyday’ presented dozens of products that do exactly that - Making Good. We exhibited a sculpture of our Pelagic.Pave., floating pavers atop another in a towering plinth of new-life plastic. Just about any Australian creative would know that when the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) engages you for an exhibition, it’s a good sign!

What made the exhibition special was that at first glance, many of the works on display seemed overwhelmingly mundane, the types of objects you could find in just about anyone’s house. And they were: Australia Post mailing satchels, cans of Wonki seltzers, and a tube of Department of Bed Intentions lube are all things that have passed through a typical Melbourne sharehouse.

Making Good highlighted everyday objects that have redefined the materiality, systems, or social norms that typically house them. The event became proof that there are quiet solutions all around us, so to see the NGV presenting Pelagic.Earth as one of those solutions was very exciting!

The Symposium: Opening the event was a symposium; 6 panel talks diving deeper into the challenges addressed through the exhibition. Our founder, Philippa Abbott, sat upon a panel chaired by Dr Olivier Cotsaftis of RMIT School of Design, alongside Jessie French of Other Matter and Andrew Simpson of Vert Design.

The panel titled ‘System Ready: Designing Materials for Impact at Scale’ was a rich interrogation of our current systemic failings and recent systemic reboots, exploring how these small yet significant tweaks can allow us to continue ‘Making Good’
